For Robin Hood, people are going to want to see suits of Lincoln green, him dueling Little John with a quarterstaff before recruiting him, the archery contest, Robin laughing at his enemies, etc.Īnd there's usually new stuff to be mined, sometimes even in the preexisting material. Same goes for classic characters that only get movies once in a great while. Sure, the stuff from the new album they're working on may be well and good, but people are going to come out for the greatest hits. BBC version, Elementary and the movie version, all did well, and at the same time. Still though, I’d say the fact that Robin Hood’s look and attitude are more important than the Disney story could mean we get at least a new story *intentionally.* The Russel Crowe movie wanted to be a serious historical action epic with a fairly morose Robin Hood, and the one Taron Egerton was swallowed up by its desire to be hip in deigns and trying to take itself a bit too seriously. but knew to keep it green, and be relaxed in its approach.
The BBC had that pretty successful Robin Hood series for two season before the third one went down the toilet, and it had similar sensibilities to the latest movie. It is worth watching, but I think that highlights a lot of it.I think Robin Hood has a bit more mileage and bit more likely success if you preserve its iconic elements than Arthur does, just because if you throw in a green suit and the right attitude, people recognize it more easily.
The movie with Russell Crowe had none of those elements until the final 5 minutes. The past few Robin Hood or King Arthur movies have not been those. Because those are the most seen right now and what people think about.īut people like what they recognize.
The most recognizable versions are the Disney versions.
